Craft Project: A bag

Last year I bought a black bag at Forever 21. I've taken it on vacations, to work, dancing, shopping, etc. The bag is great, but the handles, seen below started to crack and deteriorate (I only paid $19.99 for the bag, so that was to be expected).

Right before going to New York City this past weekend, I decided to give my bag a make-over: new handles! At first I thought about making strips of fabric and weaving a braid, but I was running out of time, and where was I going to buy/find fabric?

Just then I found a reversible fabric belt from a pair of Capri pants that I donated a while ago: perfect! I cut the belt in half, tied the knots and voila: new handles!
